Shopify integration

A contest app for Shopify that is a skill contest, not a giveaway spinner.

Install the Contest.Zone app, pick a product from your own catalog as the prize, and publish. Shoppers play on your storefront through a theme block. Consented emails arrive in Shopify as customers, tagged contest-zone. Winners are decided by score and then by server-measured time — there is no random draw anywhere in it.

What installing it actually does

  1. Install and open the app in your Shopify admin

The app requests two scopes: read_products, to list your catalog so you can choose a prize, and write_customers, to write consented entrants back to your shop. It uses session tokens and the GraphQL Admin API.
  2. Pick a product as the prize and publish

Choosing a product from your catalog creates a live contest for a brand tied to this shop. You never leave Shopify and never paste a slug. If your catalog is empty the app says so rather than inventing a demo brand for you.
  3. Add the theme block

The app deep-links you into the theme editor on the Contest.Zone skill block. Save the theme and the contest is on your storefront. Before a contest is live the block shows an honest empty state instead of a broken frame.
  4. Collect consented emails as Shopify customers

Each entry captures an email with an explicit consent checkbox and a link to the Official Rules. Submissions sync into Customers, tagged so you can segment them. An address already in your shop counts as a success — the data is already where you need it.

Why "skill contest" and not "giveaway"

Most Shopify prize apps are sweepstakes tools: a random draw, a spin-to-win wheel, a name pulled from a list. That is a different legal structure from a contest decided by performance, and the difference is not cosmetic. A prize plus chance plus consideration together is the pattern U.S. law treats as a lottery, which private operators generally may not run.

Contest.Zone removes chance rather than trying to remove consideration: entrants play trivia, Word Guess or Scramble, the higher score wins, and ties break on server-measured time. No draw happens at any stage — including among high scorers, which is the step that quietly puts chance back in.

That is a description of the product, not a legal opinion about your promotion. Prize-promotion rules vary by state, by platform and by prize value. The full comparison, with sources and the vocabulary are worth reading before you launch, and so is counsel who knows your facts.

What it does not do

  • It does not rebuild play, scoring or winner selection in Liquid. The storefront block frames the contest; the game and the scoring stay server-side on Contest.Zone, which is what keeps the answer key out of the browser.
  • It does not source or ship your prize. You provide it, and you are the sponsor of record in the Official Rules.
  • It does not draft your legal terms for you. It generates Official Rules from the contest's real fields, and you review them before anything goes live.
  • It does not pick a random winner, because that would make it a different product.

What it costs

Publishing a contest from the Shopify app is free, and its first 25 player emails are written to your Shopify customers at no charge. To add more, unlock them once per contest — billed by Shopify, no subscription, and an upgrade costs only the difference. The plans match the studio; check the live pricing for current amounts.

Try the host before you install

Every contest can carry a customizable AI host — a character that welcomes players and guides the game. You can build one in the browser without an account.
